Air conditioning and cooling

Central air conditioners, ductless mini-splits, and cold-climate heat pumps, sized to your home and installed to last. Fern Gully repairs and replaces cooling equipment across the region and services the systems we install.

Fern Gully Heating & Cooling installs and services central air conditioners, ductless mini-splits, and heat pumps across Chatham-Kent. We size the cooling load to your home, not a rule of thumb, so the unit actually dehumidifies instead of short-cycling on the hottest days.

For homes looking ahead, a cold-climate heat pump can carry both cooling and heating from one unit, and it pairs cleanly with a geothermal or hybrid system. We explain the options in plain numbers before any work starts.

  • Central air conditioning installation and repair
  • Ductless mini-split systems
  • Cold-climate heat pumps
  • Right-sized to your home, not a guess
  • Annual cooling maintenance

Equipment we carry: Napoleon, Ruud, Mitsubishi, KeepRite

Sized to actually dehumidify

Cooling that handles Ontario humidity

An oversized air conditioner cools the house too fast, shuts off, and leaves the humidity behind. A right-sized unit runs long enough to pull the moisture out of the air, which is what comfort in an Ontario summer actually feels like. We size to the real load, not a rule of thumb.

For homes looking ahead, a cold-climate heat pump carries both cooling and heating from one outdoor unit, and pairs cleanly with a geothermal or hybrid system when you are ready to move further off fossil fuel.

  • Right-sized central air installation
  • Ductless mini-splits for additions and garages
  • Cold-climate heat pumps
  • Cooling questions

    What homeowners ask about cooling

How is a heat pump different from an air conditioner?
An air conditioner cools only. A heat pump reverses the cycle to provide both cooling and heating from one unit, and a cold-climate heat pump can carry most of the winter heating load as well. For homes planning ahead, a heat pump often replaces the air conditioner and part of the furnace in one step.
Why does my air conditioner run but not cool well?
The most common cause is a unit that is oversized for the home, so it short-cycles and never dehumidifies. It can also be low refrigerant, a dirty coil, or a duct issue. We measure before we recommend, so the fix solves the real problem.
